Skainos Project

Construction costs £7.0M 110,000 sq ft

The Skainos Project is a major urban intervention much needed on the Newtownards Road. The proposals bring together a number of public and private clients including community, housing association and educational bodies. The Project will provide an appropriate icon building along the Newtownards Road.

The generator for the scheme has been to develop units with individual identities for each of the client requirements and positioning these units along a central route. This route contains within it the facilities that enable each individual unit to work effectively, thus the route plays a fundamental role in the functioning of the project. The route itself is a procession of courtyards leading from the public Newtownards Road to the more private and reflective spaces created deep within the building.
The proposal is currently the subject of an economic appraisal.
