Mount Stewart New Visitor Facilities, Strangford Lough

Donnelly O Neill Conservation were commissioned by The National Trust
to convert derelict outbuildings to create a food and drink kiosk,
toilet facilities and wheelchair store.
With the existing
structure and stone walls exposed internally, it was important both to
enhance and maintain the original character. New interventions and
materials are sensitively juxtaposed against the old and Mount Stewart
estate colours were then used to harmonize the overall scheme.
The
estate gardens can now be accessed through the existing stone wall by
steps leading up to a new seating and plant sales area beyond.
