A new 70 unit mixed social and affordable housing scheme to Code Level 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.
Due to the unique topography and orientation of this hilltop site, an imaginative and innovative design solution was required. Passive solar gain and energy techniques significantly reduce the space heating and artificial lighting requirements. Solar thermal panels provide hot water during the summer months, Biomass heating in the form of a central wood chip boiler plantroom and fuel storage facility providing any heating shortfall. Micro-Hydro power utilises the fall of surface water drainage to generate electricity.
Central shared spaces instill the feeling of community and communal garden areas/allotments allow residents to manage their own small scale food production.
