portstewart strand

d-on were appointed by the National Trust after winning a design competition.  Portstewart Strand is one of Northern Ireland's Top 10 visitor attractions and the unique new build Visitor Centre includes staff areas, exhibition/retail space, a food and drink kiosk, first aid room, secure storage and extensive toilet and shower facilities. Constructed with natural and sustainably resourced materials the building will alter with the seasons like the beach on which it stands.  Natural grasses that cover the sand dunes will propagate the sedum roof; the natural finish of the cedar boarding will cope with severe weather conditions, age gracefully and is maintenance free. The modular nature of the building means that it can be moved further down the shoreline should coastal erosion.
